FNSI - results, BSA & QBSA Blocks and an unexpected visitor ;-)

Hi everyone

FNSI again, and today saw me wearing many hats - shopper, sewer, cleaner & wildlife photographer ;-)

I went shopping for fabric for Leanne for BSA as I wasn't happy with what fabric I had in my stash. Stay tuned Leanne, your block will be finished shortly and in the mail.

This is the block I received from Leanne on Friday - thank you Leanne, I love it! such perfect colours.

I wonder, is this what is known as Civil War colours??

I finished my block for Maria for QBSA
here is a snippet

Maria, your block will be in the mail shortly.

I heard from Gemma that my August block for BSA had arrived in Spain - YAY!
I had never posted to Spain before and it seemed to take a very long time ;-(

here is the snippet of the block

and here is the full block

Gemma asked for a heart block in pastel colours - the block ended up a bit larger than 12 1/2" and Gemma can trim the block to suit.

Jen, your block will be in the mail shortly.

In between cleaning up the sewing room, and making it messy again, I did a few loads of washing and this unexpected visitor surprised me while I was hanging out some clothes.

It is one of our wonderful lizards here in Australia - lots of people keep them as pets - more information found HERE

It hung around for a while, but then went in amongst the plant pots, to eat some bugs I imagine, then it just sat sunbaking in the sun

All in all, a very good day ;-)

Curved rail blocks for Block Lotto

September Block Lotto is Curved Rail Blocks in Batiks

I mentioned in a previous post that I needed some Batiks, but when I saw the pattern .............. oh no, curves!!!!!
I have never done curves before.

I thought to myself, "Sophie has never steered you wrong yet!"
so I gave it a go

Sophie, here are my six (6) blocks for this months block lotto which I will donate ;-)
I am really hoping to get some more batik fabrics and make up some more later in the month.

I really enjoyed making these blocks ;-)

so much I made another 9 - these can't go in for Block Lotto as they all use the same three fabrics and due to a cutting error on my part only measure 8 1/4", but I am smitten with these batiks ......... I can see a lap quilt coming up in the near future.

FNSI - next one Friday, 16th September

block from Shirley

I received this most beautiful block this week from Shirley for August in the Christmas Block Swap group

look at this red and golden goodness ;-)

Perfect !!  ;-)

Shirley also included a pattern, a Christmas FQ, and a card ................ but I forgot to take a photo ;-(
so I have done a very naughty thing and pinched borrowed the pic that Shirley provided for the Christmas Block Swap Blog

thank you so much Shirley, you are most generous.  I was looking at the pattern and was trying to imagine what fabrics I could use ;-)

It's a small world ;-)

I heard from Terry that my block for August QBSA had arrived safely.  Here is the sneak peek I posted earlier.

and here is the full block.
Terry asked for ANY BLOCKS in Grey, Black and Pink.  I had so much fun making blocks for the Block Lotto, I decided to upscale the block and make a 12" one in Terry's colours.

I was extremely lucky enough to win August Block Lotto - I have won 56 blocks - after only making 2 blocks this month - the Block Lotto Gods are certainly looking after me ;-)

The small world bit is that Terry also won blocks from the August Block Lotto and is going to use my 12" block amongst her winnings.

I am just loving the blogging and quilting world ;-)

Block from Maria for September .... already ;-)

I received this lovely block in the mail from Maria for the QBSA
It came with the most beautiful card with the front made from fabric - thank you Maria, I love it and have it proudly on display in my sewing room.

Maria also included some lovely lace,
but I forgot to photograph it ;-(, sorry Maria.

Zoe's quilt passes inspection ;-)

We finally got to spend some quality time with the family on the weekend.  It was Fathers Day here in OZ and we all congregated at my sister's place.

It was almost a full house ;-)

The important guest of honour, Dad, was there, as well as the next special guests of honour
(well for me anyway ;-)) Smiley Riley & brand new (well 10 weeks) Baby Zoe.

Here is Riley inspecting the quilt I made for his new sister, Zoe.

Here is Zoe

Here is the quilt

New Fabric - just in the time of nick ;-)

I needed to get some batik fabrics for the September Block Lotto block.

I remembered I got some lovely batiks at the Salisbury Craft Fair from a stall run by Cynthia's Ark

Mandy of BlueEdge Crafts happened to send me a copy of Cynthia's September newsletter on Wednesday

Some batiks were on sale!   Thank you Mandy - perfect timing.  The photo does not do the fabric justice - the colours are gorgeous.  The last FQ on the right was a 'freebie' - thank you Cynthia, I love this colour.

Stay tuned for the Block Lotto blocks I am going to make!

Christmas Log Cabin received by Shirley

Have just heard from Shirley and she has received the log cabin block I made for the Christmas Quilt Block Swap for August

Thank you Shirley for letting me know the block has arrived safely and that you like it.

The Log Cabin block seems to have had a resurgence lately and is 'in' again - which is really good, as I have a tonne of strips pre-cut ;-)
