Spring Fling - Give away

Over on Quilt Block Swap Australia, the lovely Sue is having a give away.

I quote from the QBSA blog:

The give away is open to

and
ALL FOLLOWERS
of Quilting Block swaps Australia

This is the new range - Cameo by Amy Butler
I chose this as it is modern and fresh and should brush the cobwebs of winter away.
To enter simply pop a comment on this post and let Sue know what your favourite Spring cleaning job is and why. For two entries Blog about it and link your blog back to the post.

FNSI show and tell and .....

............ scream!

I was so looking forward to my FNSI - I had several tasks in mind ;-)

However, I only completed one ;-(

I spent a large part of my time picking fabric and cutting ready for my Block Swap Adventure partner's block - the Lattice Square

you know what's coming don't you .......... measure twice, cut once!

first lot of fabrics, I realised half way that I didn't have enough for what I wanted to do, then I don't know what happened, but I mucked up and cut all of the squares 1/4" smaller than needed!

I eventually finished the block with my third choices of fabric ;-(

Something did make me happy though  ................
I received some more goodies for my Santa Sack from Fiona

This morning we have had a new television delivered, so I am currently on 'apprentice' duty with the husband  setting up the stand and putting it on the lowline entertainment unit - glad I had my Weetbix for breakfast.
EDITED:  See post HERE for update on what happened with the television :(

35 years ago ......

I was a sewing machinist in a Jeans Factory here in Adelaide.  K.J. Jarvis & Co Pty Ltd - my boss was the most wonderful first boss anyone could ask for, Kevin Jarvis.

On this day, 35 years ago, the factory went quiet with the news on the radio that Elvis Presley was dead.

Do you remember where you were when you heard the news?

My sister gave me this book for my 14th birthday in 1974

I even did the cross-word

Whilst I don't consider myself a serious fan anymore, I still love most of his songs, and I just can't bear to throw it away ;-)

I also realised while I was sitting at my sewing machine just recently, making up the cardholders for an ETSY customer, I seem to have come full circle ;-)

Here I was sitting at a sewing machine, earning some money sewing .... not a lot of money, but it doesn't matter, I was enjoying myself, and I was making something very pretty.

I am sure if I did a comparison of the wages at the time, it just might work out the same hourly rate ;-)  here goes..........

My pay back then was a whopping $56.60 for a 36 1/2 hour week - we worked an 8 hour day Monday to Thursday, then a 4 1/2 hour day on Fridays (payday)  that makes it a whole $1.55 per hour!

I have the best ......

Sister-in-law ;-)

Sharon has come back to Adelaide for a short visit, while waiting on a new placement with her work.  She is an OT and volunteers overseas doing rehabilitation work.

Look at what she surprised me with from Bali!

We are in discussions as to what she can bring back next time ;-)
