A new gadget for the sewing room

I got very frustrated with pulling the plug out all the time when using my iron, as well as my fancy new iron turning itself off and continuously beeping, and spitting and leaking  ..... but that is another story for later.

I spied out there in blogland that there was such a device as a 'remote control' power board - I pointed it out to Mr Fixit and he said 'get it'!!!
here it is!  this device is great - you can have one item powered all the time (the first plug), then the other 4 can be individually controlled - I now have my iron in No. 4

Back to the story about the iron.  I have recently converted back to my OLD Sunbeam iron, as the fancy new one I bought last year has gone kaput!  it started leaking a little when using it and it triggered the safety switch.  We didn't realise the first time it happened that it was the iron ....... Sunday call out for an electrician as the safety switch actually 'broke' and could not be reset .............. $350 later .... not happy Jan!  then the following weekend, the new safety switch triggered, this time we tested a few items and determined it was the iron that took the safety switch out.

I am currently checking my receipts for when I bought the iron, as I think I will return it - not happy Mr Sunbeam :(

in February I requested whites - tones on tones - and received these from Melanie and Maureen

This is what I sent Melanie who was kind enough to send me a photo, as I forgot to take one - oops
There was an extra FQ thrown in for Melanie's birthday!

I sent Maureen 2 FQs from this lovely range by Sarah Fielke - the one on the left, and the one on the right - if my memory serves me right - once again I forgot to take a photo.

Another Finish! FNSI!

I have managed another finish for 2013 - this is from my Misc List of bits and pieces (use up Orphan Blocks)

this is all I can show you for now, as it is a gift
and I want to wait until the recipient gets it before the big reveal.

This was also an experiment on utilising the backing as the binding - I am pleased to say it worked well :)

This will also qualify for a FNSI show and tell ;-)  as I finished the last of the binding last night ;-)

Apologies to my PIF recipients

I had been very quietly working on my PIF projects with the intention of getting everything together ready to mail by Christmas - but I fell short of that goal.

By January, I had finished my items and the PIFs were packed and ready to mail - then I had a tidy up in preparation of some visitors and they were put out of sight ............. out of sight = out of mind.

I have also just recently started studying at TAFE and that has taken up a good part February - so that brings us to now!

So Raelene, Diane and Sherry ..... I haven't forgotten you ;-)
The good news is that your PIF items will be posted on Wednesday 27th February!

Checking my List - Back to school I go

I have had a few very busy weeks, with my preparation for returning to study ;-)

Today I commence a 6 month full-time course in Desktop Publishing, so in preparation, I have been catching up on all my swap commitments, working on a schedule for housework (and crafting) and sneeking in some Custom cards (see my blog post HERE and HERE) while I had some time.

I also went through my swap list to check that I have sent/received/thanked and blogged my most recent swaps.

Here are a few that I hadn't blogged about.

FNwF or FAwF

FNwF started as FAwF (Friday Arvo with Friends)
Old Primrose Inn
In my recent endeavours to search and destroy locate all UFOs, I came across quite a few items that were in various stages of completedness  ;-)

some items were cut, ready to sew,
some items were partially sewn, almost ready to finish
and some items ............. well let's just say I'm not sure what stage they were at ........... or what I was intending to do with them  ;-)

I played with a layout of my Old Primrose Inn blocks - I have a new Layer Cake ready to go, but just couldn't get motivated to cut and sew

I really wanted to do some 'feel good' sewing ................. something that would go towards the various relief efforts for  QLD/NSW with the recent spate of fires and floods we are experiencing.

So I experimented with an old Jelly Roll and made up a few not so Scrappy Trip Along blocks as a test before the real scrappy trip along ;-)

Scrappy Trip Along Here the blocks are, as I put them on the design wall - I can see a few patterns emerging - need to play some more ;-)
I only have a few more strips left :(
Scrappy Trip Along strips

I am going to have to find more of this fabric ........ now that I have actually made these blocks up, I really like it ;-)  Anyone know what it is?   All I can remember is that I got it from Spotlight some time in 2010, one of my very first fabric purchases ;-)
