I miss swapping :(

At the end of last year I ceased being the Co-Ordinator for Fat Quarter Swap (Australia) - my choice, I just needed to step away from the Co-ordinator 'stuff' for a while.

I stopped swapping Fat Quarters

I also stopped swapping quilt blocks

I am not a fan of conducting swaps via Facebook,  I much prefer the blogging world  LOL

.............. I miss those swaps and the interaction of the blogs  :(

Would any of my Aussie quilting blogging friends like to do an impromptu Fat Quarter Swap or Quilt Block Swap for Christmas?

My first Elephant Parade

In my last post, I mentioned that I had started the Elephant Parade by Sew Fresh Quilts for the newest member of our family - great-nephew Archie :)

Christmas Block Swap - September

Jan was my partner for September in the Christmas Quilting Block Swap.

Jan sent me this beautiful Starburst Cross

I sent her this pinwheel block - Jan's request was for bright colours, I hope this is bright enough!

the highs and lows of life :)

I was quite sad and despondent after the death of my friend Dianne.  As Secretary of the camera club, I took on the task of producing a memorial book, so that all the members of the club who could not attend the funeral were able to at least pass on their condolences to the family.

I knew I had the PERFECT fabric for this project - butterflies and green :) but it took a little while to find it - the sewing room looked like a bomb had hit it when I was finished LOL

I also found the perfect fabric for the inside cover :)

The Service was most beautiful and it was most certainly the largest funeral I have been to in recent times - there was easily 300 people there!

I took this photo just as we were leaving the service - can you see the baby?

Can you see the Baby?

My next sewing task is to finish a quilt for my niece who went into labour early and gave birth to a lovely baby boy - Archie, a brother for Lucas.   I made a quilt for Lucas HERE and HERE this time, I thought I would try something a little different for the new baby.

Back in 2015, I was most taken with Elephant Parade by Lorna from Sew Fresh Quilts, and downloaded the instructions with the intention of following along, but life got in the way and I didn't seem to have time.  The new baby was all the impetus I needed to pull out my fabrics and start cutting.

This is what I have done so far :)

Christmas Block Swap - August

Hi everyone,  hope you are all well :)

I recently rejoined the Christmas Quilting Block Swap and have been enjoying going through my Christmas fabrics again.

My August partner, Kimberly, requested the Christmas Star block in any Christmas fabrics.

well, I think this block was a bit cursed - I messed up cutting the fabrics, which meant I had to re-think my colour choices, then I put a row together in the wrong order and had some un-sewing to do :(, then I put some things on top of the half finished block and promptly forgot about it!

It is so true .............. out of sight, out of mind!

Anyway, I finally got it finished, but sadly it was not posted in time for my partner to receive it before the end of the month - which is my goal in all of my swaps :)

Now that I know it has arrived safely, here is the block I made for Kimberly.

and here is the block Kimberly sent me

I have been collecting these blocks for a little while now, so I thought I would put together a collage of what I have so far :)

Happy sewing everyone - I am off to the sewing room, anyone care to join me?

12" & 15" blocks are SOOOO BIG!!

especially after making 6 1/2" blocks for the Farmers Wife Quilt  LOL

I made sure I spent some quality time in the sewing room this week.

For July for the Christmas Block Swap, I made a pinwheel block for Erin.

Christmas Pinwheel block

July for CHERISH do Good Stitches was an octagon block - I normally hate paper piecing with a vengance, but thanks to some great instructions by Kelly, I got through it OK without too much swearing and re-sewing ;)

I took the opportunity to do the August block for CHERISH while I was in the mood!
and thanks to a great tutorial HERE the blocks came together just fine!

FNSI status update - it's a new iron!

well, I finally got to spend some time in the sewing room on Friday - forgot to take some progress shots, but I can show you my new iron!

Thanks to those who left comments on my previous post about irons :)

This one is great!  a little heavier than my old one, but I am getting used to it.

OMG - May & June ........ not quite there

Well, I did get to do some sewing this last two months ............ not as much as I would have liked, but at least I got a few things off my sewing list done!

My goal for May was to complete Lesson 4 of FWQR - got some blocks done, but did not complete the lesson.

During May, I also completed the Bee Block for Do Good Stitches - Single Wedding Ring block in pink - a big 13" block!
