Card Trick Block - what is the trick?

what is the trick to get my card trick blocks lined up properly???

This my first attempt at a card trick block and I am following instructions from HERE - it says for a confident beginner skill level !!

I think I am improving - will give it another go after I go out and get some more black  ;-)
