Quilt projects ............... In the planning stages

I am in the planning stages of a quilt cover I want to make for our bed.

I have some lovely Andover Teatime fabric and have been playing with the Quilt Wizard software to help me decide on a pattern.

Hubby likes the Card Trick block, so I have been playing with some layouts.
It is a difficult task to decide on a particular colour combination - especially when you like them all!

Here is my choice of fabrics with the backing material (left side)

this is my material with dark brown sashing and floral outer border

this is my material with a different outer border.

I still have not decided .................. it is so hard to decide to go ahead and cut!!!!

next I had a play with the Wizard to come up with a Christmas wall hanging design for my July sewing swap with CraftMad  - nothing like leaving it till the last minute for inspiration to hit!  Sorry Mandy!

I am having fun with Quilt Wizard - it is very basic, and has got me hooked, not bad for $50.  Unfortunately, you cannot import your own fabrics or view fabrics by Name, but I understand you can in EQ7 - but that software is a bit too expensive for me at the moment $285.00.  Yet another thing to be added to my crafting wish list.  I have a birthday coming up soon, so maybe ............ if I am very lucky ............ ;-)

Card Trick Block - I got the trick!! ;-)

the trick with the card trick block is to measure TWICE and cut ONCE   LOL

I managed to cut ALL of my larger squares at 5 1/8 not 5 1/4 - that is what I get for not looking at my fancy new ruler properly.

I am not used to working in inches - that's my story and I am sticking to it LOL

We have success!

look at how these seams matched up!

Card Trick Block - what is the trick?

what is the trick to get my card trick blocks lined up properly???

Attempt 1
Attempt 2

Attempt 3

This my first attempt at a card trick block and I am following instructions from HERE - it says for a confident beginner skill level !!
I think I am improving - will give it another go after I go out and get some more black  ;-)

A nice, neat & tidy sewing room

Hi everyone

I have been very busy over the last few days - I was having trouble finding some material I knew I had set aside for a swap swap over at CraftMad and decided I really needed to sort out my sewing room.

I dismantled the single bed and it is now leaning up against the wall in the corner.  Know anyone who wants a single bed in the Adelaide area?

The Horn sewing cabinet - this was my Mum's and it became mine after Mum passed away in 1998 along with the Singer Futura - I love this piece of furniture - it folds away neatly when not in use, but opens up to reveal a reasonable work area.
Complete with Singer sewing stool - the top cushion lifts off and there is a storage area underneath.

Here is my cutting table

My very small, but growing stash of fat quarters ;-)

Now I have my neat sewing room, I can make it all messy again by finishing my swap with CraftMad and my Quilt Block swap with Leena.
