FNwF & CHERISH do. Good Stitches - October & November blocks

Well, where did the last two months go?   Here are my blocks for October Cherish do. Good Stitches quilting bee.

Blue-Grey Cross

For November, I managed to get some time in the sewing room, in between preparing for my camera club AGM & end of year Trophy presentation night.  I am no longer Secretary for my camera club, so hopefully I will be able to spend more time next year out and about actually taking photos!

Tic Tac Toe blockI  have very little low volume fabrics in my stash, and had an involuntary groan when I saw our Quilter's selection of block for November.  I did intend to get out and purchase some fabrics, but as is the case with most quilters, a very generous offer of low volume 5" squares was made by our Quilter, Jackie, which I accepted and here are my blocks, all done and dusted!

I had done my preparation during the week, and intended to finish and get them in the post by the end of the week, but you know how it goes ....... best laid plans and all that!

It has been ridiculously hot here in Adelaide - whatever happened to the beautiful 22-25C days in the lead up to January?  Nope, bam, straight into 38C!  Oh, how I hate the heat!

I used the final FNwF for 2018 to sew my rows together (there was a bit of reverse sewing, as I had an issue with tension on my machine).  It was nice to be sewing with my quilty friends again, even if it was only in spirit :)

Now to get my blocks in the post!

CHERISH do. Good Stitches update

Hi everyone

Here are some recent blocks I completed for CHERISH

August-River Log Cabin
River Log Cabin - quilt to be made by Jackie

and, what I think is my favourite 'single' block of this year...

Sept-Scrappy Bear Paw
...this block is a whopping 21" square - this quilt is being made by Serena and I am so looking forward to seeing it finished.

My absolute favourite so far for this year's CHERISH blocks are the blocks made for January 2018 ;)
the I Spy Polaroid quilt (see my original post HERE)

made by Fiona and modelled beautifully by her son :) (image shared with permission)

Crossed for February Do Good Stitches

I had lots of fun making up this particular block - designed by Kelly

Crossed

I used up part of a jelly roll I have had for years - I think I will use the rest of the jelly roll and make up a few more blocks :) and see what I can come up with :)

FNSI | Show and tell | Wonky White Stars

Well, I had a good FNSI with my virtual sewing friends :) how about you, what did you do on your Friday Night?

I played with some blocks - I am the Host of CHERISH Do.Good Stitches charity quilting bee, and it was my turn for January.  I picked a 'wonky white star' in pinks/purples or blues/greens.  My intention is to make up two lap quilts

Here is what I have received - all stitchers have sent their blocks!
Wonky White Stars - Pink

Wonky White Stars - Blue

I think I will have a play around with the layouts and see what I like!  I am liking the arrangement of the Pink one, but not the layout of the blue one as much - will play some more!  I might even add a few more 6" blocks :)

more things crossed off ................

I decided to stop being the Christmas Block Swap Co-Ordinator in October - I had been swapping since 2010, and became the Co-Ordinator in 2012.  Chasing up the swaps to make sure they were completed was very time consuming and I was not enjoying it anymore :(  The lovely Bobbie has since taken it over, and I am still swapping Christmas blocks :)

I also decided to end the Fat Quarter Swap group - I found I was not enjoying that anymore either.   I found myself quite frustrated when I had to chase up whether a swap was completed or not, and I was getting very disappointed when most of the swappers stopped sharing photos of what had been sent and received - that was the bit I enjoyed most .... seeing all the lovely Fat Quarter goodies :)  I was going to close it completely - the blog and the Facebook group, but I received an offer from Sara to keep it going :)  Hopefully, Sara will breathe some new life into it.

I found I still wanted to do something with my time :)  they say when one door closes, another one opens ............... well it did :)  An opportunity for a new host of the CHERISH circle of the do Good Stitches bee opened up .......... and I put myself forward, and was accepted :)

I have been a stitcher for the CHERISH circle for a few years, so I knew roughly how it worked.  I am currently in the process of getting to know the new members of our circle, and have taken the first spot for the year with a scrappy wonky star block - a nice easy one for everyone to start with.

I hadn't even got around to making up a sample block, when Margie shared a photo of what she had made (I have pinched Margie's photo here :) )  Very exciting seeing these!

Wonky white stars
These blocks are already in my hot little hands ....... I can't wait to see what the resultant quilts will look like - I will be making two lap quilts as I only have a domestic machine and will be limited in how I can quilt it.

FNwF - show and tell

FNwF again!  they seem to be coming round quicker and quicker as the year progresses.

For October for Do Good Stitches, we were asked to make two scrappy blue pineapple blocks - I have never made one of these before, and was pleasantly surprised on how easily it came together.

I think this is the perfect scrap busting block :)

Scrappy Blue Pineapple Block

Now to find some more blues and greens in my stash - it's a long weekend here in Adelaide, so while hubby is working at home, I will spend time in the sewing room - how much better can life get?  LOL

CHERISH Do Good Stitches | March Block

I got to spend some time in the sewing room over Easter Weekend, and completed the very late Starburst Cross for March Do Good Stitches bee block.

I must say, I love the way this block came together and I love the colourings chosen for it :)

November catchup | Slow Postal Services

I really didn't want to finish the year being so far behind in my swap commitments - so I did some appropriate preparation to get motivated to sew  :)

and I managed to catch up on my Do Good Stitches Bee blocks :)

October Block
Scrappy Tic Tac Toe #1
Scrappy Tic Tac Toe #1

Scrappy Tic Tac Toe #2
Scrappy Tic Tac Toe #2
November block
Red Cross - white dots
Red Cross #1

Red Cross - white flowers
Red Cross #2
Mental note to self - check which side is the right side when working with tone on tone :)  I had to rip out 3 different sections because I sewed them the wrong way :(

I am still waiting on my block from USA - it was posted 7th November :(

Mr Fixit is still waiting on his package from UK - they are sending a replacement :)

Mr Fixit is now on leave - and will be for the next SEVEN WEEKS!!  I hope we don't drive each other crazy being home together for that amount of time LOL - not to worry, the Cricket will be on, so he will be happy, and I can craft or sew to my hearts content, so I will be happy :)

Do.Good Stitches - March Blocks

I am slowly catching up with my Bees :)

Do. Good Stitches - March blocks
The block this month was a bit more challenging :)
Simply Woven following instructions from ModaBakeshop
Colours requested were for 'muted brights', preferably in the greeny/browny/reddy/orangey colour range.
These blocks were a challenge for me - the first lot came out a bit undersized :(

Simply Woven-1

but the next lot worked out a bit better :)
Simply Woven-2

I have sent both lots, hopefully they can be used :)
