Adelaide Craft & Quilt Fair

I went to the Adelaide Craft and Quilt Fair yesterday - lots of walking around, lots of lovely things to see, lots of inspiration, but I was very restrained in my purchases .............. only getting what was 'needed' ;-)

This is what greeted me when I arrived :)

Thank you for visiting my blog today - I hope you have a good day.

FASI/FNSI - show and tell

Well, it FASI/FNSI again - (Friday Afternoon Sew In/Friday Night Sew In) I love getting together with my blogging buddies and sewing - it is the next best thing to a real get together ;-)

The day started off with some obligatory errands and housework - my car is going to need some TLC. I got some new tyres last week and they commented that my CV joints need some attention :(  so off to Mr Fixit's mechanic I go.  My car is also WAY OVERDUE for a service, so it is booked in for 1st November.

I also had a trip to the Post Office to pay some bills and return our old Foxtel Box (pay TV) - our old box died the other week ....... the power went off and when it came back on again, Foxtel was decidedly dead :( We were out of action for about a week, but we really can't complain, our old box was at least 10 years old and we used it just about every day to record shows.  We had been thinking about upgrading anyway :)

Of all the times for our Foxtel to fail and to lose some shows we had recorded, but not watched .................  I lost the LAST TWO episodes of Army Wives - now I have to wait until SOHO screens it again.
I also lost a week's worth of  The Young and The Restless - some may say 'no biggie' BUT ............ there was an unexpected pregnancy, two marriages break-up, an attempt on someone's life, and the biggie ............ Nikki was diagnosed with MS :(

We also missed the return of Revolution, but were able to watch that on CatchUp - don't you just love modern technology.

Anyway, back to my FNSI show and tell ;-)

This lovely brochure was in my letterbox when I got home, so I figured it was a very good excuse to sit down with a coffee from my fabulous new coffee machine and have a read - I am so looking forward to going this year - I really enjoyed last year :)

After my coffee, I ventured into the sewing room to work on my swap blocks for October.
My QBSA partner, Lorraine, requested any Tulip block - my search revealed a few patterns, but none for 12" - so after a very frustrating hour for this mathematically challenged little black duck, I made up the block as given in the 9" instructions and will add another outer border in the background fabric to bring it up to 12"

I was a bit frustrated with my time in sewing room, and decided to walk away, as I have found it is not good to sew when your mind is not really on it - mistakes are made so easily.  So I ventured into the craft room, and filled my Halloween Treat boxes ready for Halloween (one or two may just have slipped into my mouth - well I had to check for freshness ......
some of you may recall that I did this last year, but nobody came to the door :(
So this year, I will have a sign on the door - and if nobody comes this year, then we will have an awful lot of choccies in the house ........... they won't go to waste (or should that be waist  :) )

So that's it for my FASI/FNSI update - visit Wendy's blog to see the list of other participants in FNSI and go visit and say hello ;-)

I am returning to the sewing room today to finish off my other blocks for swap - stay tuned for more photos ;-)

Quilt & Craft Fair Adelaide - more pics

As mentioned in my post last week, I went to the Quilt & Craft Fair in Adelaide.

I went for a leisurely stroll through the Quilt Exhibition - before I started quilting, I would just have a quick wander through and that would be it.  I could never understand the people who stood in front of a quilt for what seemed like a year ages and just look!

Well, now that I am quilting, I am one of those people ;-)

I wasn't so happy to see a sign saying that taking photographs was permitted, but only for personal use.  Images could not be published without the permission of the maker.  :-)

Anyway, I took some photos of some quilts that took my fancy, and I thought I would file them away as quilts I would like to tackle one day ;-)

I was most impressed with one particular quilt - Deconstructed Dresdens - I don't know whether it was the Dresden or the colour scheme, but both together in the one quilt were a big TICK for me.

I tracked down the maker (via the SA Quilters Guild website) and sent her an email letting her know I saw her quilt and loved it .............. and she gave me permission to blog about it ;-)

I was one of those people who stood in front of this quilt for *a year* ages and just let my eyes wander all over it ;-)

I took a photo of the details so I could look back on who made it

One of the Deconstructed Dresden's up close ;-)

Thank you so much Sally - both for making this beautiful quilt which has inspired me so much and for giving me permission to blog about on my little blog ;-)

Next up, I came across this Farmer's Wife Quilt
it has been made by a fellow blogger that I follow Pip
so ofcourse I asked her if I could blog about it too ...... and she very kindly said 'yes' ;-)
I confess, I never quite 'got' the appeal of this Farmers Wife thingy .............. until now ;-)

I don't think I am quite ready to tackle this paper pieced quilt just yet, but I have filed it away in my 'inspiration folder' for now ;-)

Craft & Quilt Fair - Adelaide - Starstruck ;-)

I spent some time at the Adelaide Craft & Quilt Fair on Friday - and I am so glad I did ;-)

First up I decided to drive instead of relying on public transport - I am so glad I did .... my feet were very sore by the end of the day and it would have been terrible walking home from the bus stop ... my bag was very heavy too ;-)

As is my normal practice, I went in and did a complete circumference to see what was around - no purchasing at this point, but I did spy Material Obsession's stall, and had a chat with the lovely Kathy, I walked away thinking 'what a lovely lady, so nice to meet her in real life" .............. I must confess, I was completely starstruck ............... I forgot to ask for a photo :(  DOH!

then I did another round, this time making purchases ;-)

Purchases were from
The Bay Window
Patchwork with Gail
Cynthia's Ark
Fat Cats Card Corner

I had lots of fun, but was very glad to get home and off my feet so that I could sort out my goodies along with a lovely glass of wine ;-)

My Weekend away

I finally got around to posting photos of my weekend away HERE

Unfortunately, I didn't get to spend time in The Quilt Basket as I had hoped, but I did get to spend some time in The Whyte House Gallery - even better for me as it had EVERYTHING! ......... Cardmaking supplies, scrapbooking supplies, beading supplies, embroidery threads, cottons, quilt fabric ........  if ever I am down that way again, I will definitely be going back for another visit.

Thank you for visiting my blog today - I hope you have a good day.

Ladies! start your sewing machines ;-)

It's Clipsal Weekend here in Adelaide - lots of V8 cars running around the city and lots of visitors ;-)

Whilst I don't call myself a 'rev head', I do enjoy it when the V8 race cars come to town.

It all started when Adelaide had the F1 races in the 90s.  In 1994, the company I worked for had a lottery draw for staff to spend the afternoon at the race in the Corporate Box.  I was one of the lucky ones that got selected for the day of the V8 races.

Here is my hero, Peter Brock (RIP) in action - he was too quick for me to get a photo on the track, so I took a photo of our personal monitor in our 'Corporate Box'

I love this photo of the Roulettes - this is the photo that sparked my interest in photography ;-)
The image is not the best, as it is a scanned copy of the actual photo that has been in a photo frame for a while.

Any way, enough of my waffling, now to the serious stuff ;-)

It is FNSI, and I have been able to make an early start.  Fabric is ready in the sewing room, glass of wine has been poured, sun is shining, just pausing to pick which music to listen to, then I am off and racing err, sewing ;-)

will post pics of my endeavours later

I want to do more to help ;-)

I have enjoyed making up blocks for the QLD Flood Victims much more than I thought I would.
It has motivated me to see if there is more that I can do - hopefully for people closer to home ;-)

I was wondering if there were other like minded people out there who made/organised quilts for people in need here in Adelaide, South Australia.
