Rainbow Charm Swap

I am taking part in a Rainbow Charm Swap and have picked out my fabrics and cut them up.

I was surprised it didn't take that long to cut up 16 charm squares in each colour.

There was some discussion on the Flickr group whether to wash or not.  I always wash my fabrics - I have had too many bad experiences with fabric shrinking and colours running.

As usual, I put a ColourCatcher in with my fabrics and this is what came out

On the left is a fresh ColourCatcher and on the right is what run out of the fabrics - I would much rather the colours run when I wash it before I use the fabric, than the colours run in a finished article ;-(

I would feel terrible if any fabric I gave someone caused a colour run in their finished article ;-(

November Blocks and thanks to swap organisers

I have received some beautiful blocks during the month of November

From Susan (no blog), for BSA - The colours are perfect, unfortunately, this photo does not do the colours justice!

this is the block I sent Susan -
I enjoyed the challenge of making this one ;-) - 28 HSTs!

from Tarnyia for QBSA - once again, the colours are perfect!
One happy little vegemite here!

This is the block I sent to Tarnyia

Tarnyia asked for scrappy spider web with a grey centre - I really enjoyed making this block.

Here is the block I sent for my first 6" swap for Cheryl

I hope it has arrived by now ............. it can sometimes take a bit longer to get to WA!

My thanks go to SueB of QBSA & 6" swap group, Linda of BSACraftyPug of Christmas Block Swap and Sophie of Block Lotto for being such great organisers throughout the year.

My Memories Scrapbooking Software Giveaway

This post will stay on top until 21st November - please scroll down to see recent posts.

I have had a wonderful opportunity to have a play with some new digital scrapbooking software – well new to me ;-) and I have been having fun ;-)

I have been playing over the last few days – in between loads of washing and giving hubby the occasional assistance while he is plastering/painting (not much housework has been done at all!)

Here is just a very small sample of what I have come up with.

made using a photo template page

made using the One Spot Album Template

made using a mixure of scrapbook elements from other sources

This software is easy to use, comes with numerous templates, but you can ‘do your own thing’ too. You also have the ability to bring in elements from other sources that you may already have – making it very useful in my book ;-)

Now, here is the good bit ………… I am able to give you the opportunity to get your very own copy of My Memories Suite 2.0 ($40 value) ABSOLUTELY FREE.

What do you have to do? Well, I don’t want you to jump through too many hoops, but there are a few ;-)
  1. You must be a follower to ANY of my blogs – Cathy’s Creative Corner, Cathy’s Sewing Room, Cathy's Kitchen or Through My Eyes
  2. Visit My Memories website. Once you are there, check out the different digital paper packs on offer and let me know which one you like best by leaving a comment on THIS post (on Cathy's Creative Corner).
  3. I must have a way of contacting you - no contact, no entry!
  4. This giveaway will end on NOON, Monday, 21st November 2011 (Aussie Time) and winner will be drawn the old fashioned way ………… names in a bowl ;-).
Good luck to you all!

If you miss out on this giveaway, or just can’t wait to have your own copy of My Memories 2.0, a very special coupon code is also available!
If you use the coupon code STMMMS33699 at My Memories, upon checkout, you’ll receive a $10 discount off the purchase of the My Memories Suite Scrapbook software AND a $10 coupon for the MyMemories.com store – a $20 value!

If you have any questions, please email me at:

I am happy to say that the company has been a pleasure to deal with, no ‘nasties’ came with the software, and they haven’t hounded me with emails since downloading the software ;-)

FNSI - show and tell

It was FNSI and boy, did I have some fun ;-)

I actually started in the afternoon, and cut and sewed and pressed and came out of my room very pleased with my efforts.

Completed items:
my first 6" blocks for the 6 inch swap group - tease photo follows:

block for Sue (no blog) for BSA - tease photo follows:

Sue's block has taken a bit to get started - I was really stumped on fabric for a little while.  But once I decided on fabric, it was full steam ahead ........ the actual sewing took me most of the afternoon - lots of HSTs (28 to be exact!) and I am very pleased with the result - you will have to wait until Sue sees it first  ;-)

block for Tarnyia for QBSA - tease photo follows:
I have always wanted to try this pattern, but you will have to wait until Tarnyia sees it first  :-)

I also made up a test block I was thinking about requesting for future 6" swaps - 6" violet block (same as a previous Block Lotto block) with white background, yellow centre, bright fabric for petals.

I figure if I am going to request it,
I should make sure it can be made easily ;-)

Block Lotto Blocks for November

The block for Block Lotto for November is a great scrap buster ;-)

We are to make 12 inch Scrappy Trips blocks.
Bonnie Hunter's pattern can be found on her Quiltville site here:  http://quiltville.blogspot.com/2005/06/scrappy-trips-around-world.html

The Block Lotto slant is that there must be ONE VERY DARK fabric (think black or another color that is so dark that it might read as black from across the room). Place the dark fabric so that it forms the diagonal that goes from corner to corner.

Other Fabrics - all other fabrics in the block are your choice. This is a great time to use up the last bit of a favorite fabric or to use some of those "what was I thinking" ugly fabrics in your stash. Mix it up and AVOID making monochrome blocks (with 4-6 strips of fabrics that are different values of the same color--in my experience, these are the blocks that will stick out in the finished quilt and be the block that is NOT like the others.
If you make multiple blocks, you can repeat fabrics, just DON'T USE THE SAME SIX fabrics in multiple blocks.

I wansn't too sure about this one, but I figured
"Sophie doesn't steer you wrong" ;-)

So I went about selecting my fabrics and this is what I came up with ;-)

This was certainly an exercise that showed up inaccurate cutting - some of the strips I used were leftover pre-cut jelly roll strips ;-(

Here are my 5 blocks made so far

Thank you, Sophie, once again you have made a wonderful block selection.

Rainbow Charm swap - Now taking Members

UPDATED:   Now taking members - see HERE

Sharon has come up with a wonderful idea for a swap - a rainbow charm swap - and is searching for expressions of interest for participants.

I have taken a snippet from Sharon's blog

Are you interested?

I am "toying" with the idea of hosting a Rainbow Charm Square Swap for Australian and New Zealand residents so this is my official call for your "Expression of Interest"

If you are interested kindly leave me a message at the bottom of this post and please, if you are a "no-reply blogger" I need a way to contact you so I suggest that you change your setting to take part.

At this stage there will be no commitment, I just want to know if it is worth going forward the next step.

As a basic outline it would run as follows:-

This swap will be based on the color wheel.

1 yard of fabric cuts up to 56 charm squares so that would be an ideal number of participants.

Each participant will purchase two different fabrics-- one yard each. They will then cut those into 5" square charms and send them to me.

Quilt-shop-quality fabric only please

Please visit Sharon's post HERE for more detailed information.

I would love to make a Rainbow quilt - just like this one ;-)

Blocks have been received - I hope ;-)

I have been waiting to hear if these blocks have arrived safely and shall assume they have.

I hope the recipients are happy with what I have made for them.

For Nolene (QBSA)

I squealed for joy when I saw Nolene's preferences.

Regular readers will remember I made a quilt with this very same colour/block combination

I can't wait to see what Nolene makes with her blocks.
