January Catch-up

Well ..... where did that month go?   January disappeared into the blink of an eye!

My WOOFA project was to continue working on my cross-stitch ......... that didn't happen!

My Project Uninterrupted project was to make two new masks  ..... that didn't happen!

My Personal Declutter Project was to tackle the sewing room ..... that didn't happen .... well it did sort of, but I think I just made it worse!  LOL

I have to work on some cards this month, so the sewing room will be put on the back burner while I spend time in the Craft Room ;)

Cheers for now .... I'm off to make a coffee and then visit a few blogs for WOOFA :)

September catch-up

Well, September has been a bit of a 'downer' month for me :(

not really motivated to anything creative ........

I did finally finish my August blocks for Cherish Do. Good Stitches

It's now in the hands of Australia Post.

Linking up with my WOOFA friends - I may not have done much this month, but they all have :)

Thanks to Cheryll for giving us all a gentle 'nudge' :)

FNSI - Friday, 17th April 2020

We are slowly adjusting to this 'stay at home, stay safe' thinking ...😷

So far, I have only been out once this week to do the grocery shopping.  We still hadn't been able to get toilet paper and things would have been quite desperate at the end of this week, but a friend was able to get some and made a quick 'pit stop/drive-by' to drop some on the front door step 😌

I have spent a bit of time in the sewing room, finishing off some 'rainbow stripes' for CHERISH do Good Stitches charity bee - this will have to wait till the next time I am out of the house to be posted.

FNSI (well in the afternoon) was quite enjoyable working on a UFO

... a bit of Port, chocolate and something to keep the hands busy ... what more does a girl need 😉

This cross stitch will count towards my April Woofa Challenge.

I was quite relieved to read that South Australia is doing particularly well with 'flattening the curve' and I do hope that some restrictions can start to be lifted some time during May 💕

FNwF - April

I spent my Friday Night with Friends in my Sewing Room - well part of the afternoon if I am honest :)

Doing some much needed sorting of scraps - preparing for the next Cherish Do Good Stitches block

I have been sorting scraps, smaller than a Fat Quarter, into baskets.

FNSI ....not going according to plan

I was all set for FNSI, with Wendy , especially being on a roll from my previous sewing session for CHERISH do Good Stitches.

Back in January 2017, I was quilter for the month and my chosen block was a Churn Dash in Black & White.  I was inspired by this photo I saw online

I love the secondary pattern formed when the blocks are joined together without sashing :)

So, on Friday afternoon I prepared for my FNSI session and got out all the Churn Dash blocks received from the 'Cherish circle', pressed them and laid them out.  I noticed that a few of the blocks were a bit undersized (only measuring 12" instead of 12.5") and that stopped me in my tracks :(

The 4 smaller blocks are on the bottom row, but if I include them, it will be very obvious ...... so ...... I left it on the design wall for the weekend pondering what to do.

One of the Cherish Quilters suggested using sashing, but staggering them so the difference is not quite so obvious and I am toying with that idea, but not completely sold.

I could make it more of a lap quilt with 3x4 layout and use the smaller blocks as part of the backing ....

Will keep you all posted ;)

Time in the Sewing Room ...

.... equals pure enjoyment

Here is a collection of UFOs for my CHERISH quilting bee.  I have had the blocks for some of these for quite some time.

As part of my WOOFA challenge from the lovely Cheryll of Gone Stitchin' I finally finished the flimsies and got them to a stage ready to baste & quilt.

I only have a domestic sewing machine and I have been putting off quilting these as I knew it would be a difficult task.  However, the lovely most generous members of my quilting circle have offered to finish them off for me.
4 flimsies - freshly ironed ready for basting & quilting
So these 4 are heading off to be quilted and donated to a deserving charity!

catching up, crossing off lists ....

Where has the year gone?  Once again, I have let things slide a bit :(

I have been busy, but have not blogged about things as much - I want that to change next year, and be more active with my blogging and general creativeness :)

Anyway, here are a few pics of adventures in my sewing room.

FNSI | first real sewing for the year!

YAY - I got to spend some time in the sewing room along with some FNSI friends :)

Friday night, I was able to take some time and sort through a few fabrics, and do some cutting in preparation for some quilt blocks for CHERISH do. Good Stitches charity bee.

Our first block for the year, is a 'skateboard' block for Jackie ............ I had to sort through quite a bit of my fabric stash, as the colour selections were a mix of blues &/or greens for an older boy ...... my stash is decidedly girly, and most certainly very few greens that weren't leaves (I realise my stash is quite heavy on the florals LOL)

Any way, after taking forever to decide what fabrics to use, after the cutting, I decided leave it to the weekend to finish sewing.

I was also happy to spend some 'cyber' time with my quilty friends as part of Cynthia's Ark Project Uninterrupted

must go now, time for tea!  Hope you all had a great weekend, I know I did!

FNwF & CHERISH do. Good Stitches - October & November blocks

Well, where did the last two months go?   Here are my blocks for October Cherish do. Good Stitches quilting bee.

Blue-Grey Cross

For November, I managed to get some time in the sewing room, in between preparing for my camera club AGM & end of year Trophy presentation night.  I am no longer Secretary for my camera club, so hopefully I will be able to spend more time next year out and about actually taking photos!

Tic Tac Toe blockI  have very little low volume fabrics in my stash, and had an involuntary groan when I saw our Quilter's selection of block for November.  I did intend to get out and purchase some fabrics, but as is the case with most quilters, a very generous offer of low volume 5" squares was made by our Quilter, Jackie, which I accepted and here are my blocks, all done and dusted!

I had done my preparation during the week, and intended to finish and get them in the post by the end of the week, but you know how it goes ....... best laid plans and all that!

It has been ridiculously hot here in Adelaide - whatever happened to the beautiful 22-25C days in the lead up to January?  Nope, bam, straight into 38C!  Oh, how I hate the heat!

I used the final FNwF for 2018 to sew my rows together (there was a bit of reverse sewing, as I had an issue with tension on my machine).  It was nice to be sewing with my quilty friends again, even if it was only in spirit :)

Now to get my blocks in the post!

CHERISH do. Good Stitches update

Hi everyone

Here are some recent blocks I completed for CHERISH

August-River Log Cabin
River Log Cabin - quilt to be made by Jackie

and, what I think is my favourite 'single' block of this year...

Sept-Scrappy Bear Paw
...this block is a whopping 21" square - this quilt is being made by Serena and I am so looking forward to seeing it finished.

My absolute favourite so far for this year's CHERISH blocks are the blocks made for January 2018 ;)
the I Spy Polaroid quilt (see my original post HERE)

made by Fiona and modelled beautifully by her son :) (image shared with permission)

Friday Night with Friends

It has been quite a while since I participated in a Friday Night with Friends - I haven't been very motivated of late to get in the sewing room.  Recovery after my fall is progressing, and I am happy to say I can now sit comfortably at the sewing machine.

Last night, I had a 'cutting session' in preparation for some sewing - unfortunately, I didn't get to actually sew, but that will happen over the weekend.

This is in preparation for my CHERISH Do. Good Stitches blocks for August & September.  I will post pictures of blocks when finished, but for now, it is back to the sewing room for me LOL

My CHERISH Do. Good Stitches blocks

I have been struggling to find time to sew lately ........ but the one thing that keeps me returning to the sewing room is my desire to fulfill my responsibilities as Host for the CHERISH circle of do. Good Stitches :)

9 Patch in Red & White

It doesn't take too much effort to organise this great bunch of quilters :)  A few of us have been around for a few years now, and it all seems to flow beautifully - except I am usually the last one to complete and send my blocks :(

Heart Crossed Blocks - 03Heart Crossed Blocks - 02Heart Crossed Blocks - 01

I keep thinking, I will do that next weekend ..... and we all know what happens next, don't we?  LOL

Crossed

The last two months have been difficult to sew, as I had a fall and hurt my knee.  As you can imagine, it is difficult to sit at a sewing machine when you can't bend your leg :)

Jacobs Ladder  Jacobs Ladder

QST x 4

I am on the mend now, slowly but surely.  I was a bit stubborn for a while and didn't rest the knee as much as Doctor ordered, so recovery has been slow.  I am still not quite ready for a marathon, but I am getting there.

Many thanks to Mr Fixit for doing the heavy things like doing grocery shopping and vacuuming :)  Don't know where I would be without him!
