2011 finishes!

I am loving being at home!
Hubby is home too, but he is busy on his laptop for a project for work, so I am left pretty much to myself.  What does one do when they are left to their own devices?
Well, I usually do a bit of sorting, and while sorting, I get inspired to make something, usually some blocks to go towards a quilt (eventually)  ;-)

I came across some beautiful fabric that was way too thin to use for quilting, but I thought it would make a lovely sewing caddy.

I found this caddy HERE, full instructions are HERE

more pics can be found in my other post HERE

I was so impressed with the pattern, I made another one.

I think I did a much nicer job on the second one ;-)

Australia Day - a day for cricket, lamb and sewing

It's

a day for celebrating which, for this particular Australian citizen, means

watching the cricket on the TV,

having a rack of Lamb for tea,
and doing a bit of sewing

this is what I made up today

I came across this caddy HERE, full instructions are HERE

I didn't do all the embroidery, but I used the basic template for my shapes - this sewing caddy came together very easily and I am happy with my first attempt ;-)  there will most probably be another ;-)

Anyway, back to our usual programming now ...........

here is a snippet of the block for SylviaU - your block will be in the post on Thursday

I also received this beautiful block from Melissa as part of the Block Swap Adventure group

Shooting Star in Canada

The block I made for my Christmas Block Swap January partner, Brigitte has arrived in Canada.

Brigitte requested any star block in traditional Christmas colours
(the colours of red, green, gold, ivory, white) on cream BUT NOT FRIENDSHIP STAR

I made a Shooting star and here is a snippet photo

here is the full block

Brigitte loves the ornament fabric and finds it very charming
thank you Brigitte ;-)

more QLD Flood relief efforts - wonky log cabins

I had a belated FNSI, and sewed up a storm on Saturday.
I had lots of strips set aside for some reason, so I decided to do something useful with them and have made up some scrappy wonky log cabin blocks.

the blocks made with 2 1/2" strips come together quicker,
but I think I like the 1 1/2" strips best

I will send these off to retro mummy shortly.

This gave me an opportunity to have a practice run before I cut up my black & white and red fabrics for a quilt cover for our bedroom.

Blocks Received during the week

Hi everyone,  boy! going to work sure eats into your
blogging time, doesn't it ;-)

I have received some more blocks in the mail during the week, and now I can post some photos.

First up is a block from SylviaM - for the January QBSA my photo does not do the colours justice - it is actually a bit browner/warmer ;-)

next is a block from Cecelia QBS Mom, as a substitute block for an inactive November swap partner - thank you Cecelia, this block is beautiful - once again, my photo does not do the colours justice - it is rich red/gold tonings

I do have a fondness for fabrics with gold in them ;-)

Blocks received - thank you so much

I have received two beautiful blocks in the mail this last few days - one from Cecelia QBS Blog Mom and one from SylviaM QBSA for January

I am unable to post photos just yet, but will get to them on the weekend.
Thank you ladies, the blocks will look great in my quilt.

I am currently doing some temp work on a short term contract - it is nice to be out and about earning some money, but I sure do miss my blogging ;-)
