More heart string blocks for Block Lotto

I was able to make another heart block

Total blocks submitted:  3 (donated)

FNSI - 18th February 2011 - blocks, borders & hearts completed

It was Friday Night Sew In yesterday.  It is so good to have a designated day to stop everything else and sew.  In preparation, I have been shopping and got some more material and new threads - I am a Gütermann convert!  I tried this thread for the first time over Christmas and I am impressed!  so little fluff ;-)

I must confess, I was behind in my block swaps - I was having difficulty picking my fabrics for one of the blocks - no matter what I tried, I was not happy ;-(

After several visits to Spotlight, I came across some fabric that I think my swap partner will be happy with.

So I don't spoil the surprise for my partners, I will only post a snippet of the blocks I completed today.

First up, my block for Theresa, my February partner for Block Swap Adventure.

Next up is a block for Shauna, my February partner for Christmas Block Swap

Ladies, your blocks will be in the mail on Monday, with my apologies for taking so long.

I was able to add the borders to my black & white log cabin quilt

Next I got to make up another string heart block for block lotto

All in all, a very successful FNSI - which actually lasted most of the day

FNSI - today!

It's FNSI today - yay, I have been looking forward to this one

Hubby is home today, but he is happy to spend the afternoon watching his favourite shows on the TIVO, so I am free to spend the afternoon sewing.  I have been shopping and got some material and new threads and have a plan of attack! LOL

Need to get some housework done, and maybe nip out and get some wine, then I am all set ;-)

Stay tuned for some pics

I want to do more to help ;-)

I have enjoyed making up blocks for the QLD Flood Victims much more than I thought I would.
It has motivated me to see if there is more that I can do - hopefully for people closer to home ;-)

I was wondering if there were other like minded people out there who made/organised quilts for people in need here in Adelaide, South Australia.

Block received by Leanne & Blocks for QLD

Leanne has advised that the block for February QBSA has arrived - thanks Leanne, am looking forward to receiving your block too ;-)

Leanne requested a LogCabinBlock with the centre block white, one side in pinks the other side in aqua blues.

here is the snippet I posted earlier
and here is the full block

I enjoyed making this block so much, I made up some more for Quilts for Queensland

here are some wonky log cabin blocks

and some greens ;-)

I love making log cabin blocks ;-)

A quilt top awaiting a border or two?

As mentioned in a previous post, I have been playing with Quilt Wizard and came up with a design for a black & white & red log cabin quilt top - the fabrics in QW are not quite the same as I have used, but it gives the general idea

this is what I came up with
here are my first blocks on the design wall - nice big 15" blocks

then I came up with this layout

so, back to Quilt Wizard and I came up with this -

Stage 1 of quilt

Stage 2 of quilt

now to decide whether to proceed with the third group of blocks as designed - the four sections sit nicely on top of the main bed area.  Next, how to proceed with the outer borders .......... as I have designed, or go with something slightly different.  I think I will keep looking at it for a while and see if something magically appears ;-)

My new design wall - look Mum - no pins! ;-)

I had read a tip in blogland somewhere ;-) that a cheap felt/flannel backed vinyl tablecloth can serve as a design wall.   So, on my next visit to Spotlight, I went searching.  I found a large rectangle tablecloth for $7.99 and hey presto!  I have a design wall.  I don't need to use pins now to keep my blocks in place ;-)

So, the first blocks I put on my new wall, was all of the autumn toned blocks I have received from various swap partners.  It is so hard to believe that I only started quilting in April 2010 and participated in my first swap in May 2010 - I feel like I have been doing this for ages ;-)

I am thinking the two central blocks (paper pieced & applique) will be made into cushions for the lounge - they deserve to be on display all of the time and they will fit in with the decor ;-)

next are the Christmas Blocks I have received

here are a collection of purple blocks

next are a collection of 'others' ;-)

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of my 2010 swap partners
I have really enjoyed 'meeting' you all, and hope it continues through 2011 ;-)
