Some sewing just for me & FQs from Barb

I did some sewing just for me ;-)

I liked the way the recent baby bag I made came together, so I made another one.  I was in Spotlight the other day and saw some material that I just fell in love with and thought it would make a lovely tote bag.

I have also received a set of yellow fat quarters from Barb

Thank you Barb, I love the yellow owls ;-) and thanks for the extra goodies too ;-)

Mindless Sewing :-)

I was in the mood to sew over the Easter Weekend

so I used up some strips that were lying around and made this

I now have a cushion for my sewing chair ;-)
I have submitted it to Pillow Party

It's Finished!!

The Black & White & Red quilt for our bedroom is finished.

I used my new quilting foot and quilted around the dark 'crosses' yesterday, and this morning (with my extra hour) I put the binding on.

I went back to my first choice of black binding.

love doing the corners ;-)

the finished product ;-)

Auditioning Bindings

I never knew that picking a binding would prove so elusive

The top for the black & white & red quilt has been finished for a while, but I have been having difficulty deciding on a binding.  I was originally going to do solid black, but am not confident with that choice - we definitely don't want red binding.  So here is some polka dot binding - any other suggestions?

I was thinking of using a polka dot backing and think it may clash ;-(

I wanted to use a bright rainbow coloured dots/spots/stripes for the coin stack quilt and came across this one in Spotlight today - normally $9.99/m out for $7.99/m.  I had a voucher and had to use it up before it expired ;-)

I am most probably going to use a white on white backing for this one.

My First Pillow

Morning everyone.

We have a lovely sunny day here in Adelaide, all the doors and windows are open and my sweeping and vacuuming is done.

I made my first pillow the other day, complete with the flap to keep the pillow inside.

I am quite chuffed as I made this from scratch to match the Black & White & Red quilt I am making for our bed.  It was quite a challenge figuring out which way to do things ;-)

I have now made another matching pillow, and here they are on the bed.

I am going to submit this pillow to Pillow Party.  I am not too sure if this is fits in with their theme, the pillows submitted previously are so gorgeous.  But you just never know .........

Check out all the other entries - there are some real works of art there ;-)

FNSI - 18th February 2011 - blocks, borders & hearts completed

It was Friday Night Sew In yesterday.  It is so good to have a designated day to stop everything else and sew.  In preparation, I have been shopping and got some more material and new threads - I am a Gütermann convert!  I tried this thread for the first time over Christmas and I am impressed!  so little fluff ;-)

I must confess, I was behind in my block swaps - I was having difficulty picking my fabrics for one of the blocks - no matter what I tried, I was not happy ;-(

After several visits to Spotlight, I came across some fabric that I think my swap partner will be happy with.

So I don't spoil the surprise for my partners, I will only post a snippet of the blocks I completed today.

First up, my block for Theresa, my February partner for Block Swap Adventure.

Next up is a block for Shauna, my February partner for Christmas Block Swap

Ladies, your blocks will be in the mail on Monday, with my apologies for taking so long.

I was able to add the borders to my black & white log cabin quilt

Next I got to make up another string heart block for block lotto

All in all, a very successful FNSI - which actually lasted most of the day

A quilt top awaiting a border or two?

As mentioned in a previous post, I have been playing with Quilt Wizard and came up with a design for a black & white & red log cabin quilt top - the fabrics in QW are not quite the same as I have used, but it gives the general idea

this is what I came up with
here are my first blocks on the design wall - nice big 15" blocks

then I came up with this layout

so, back to Quilt Wizard and I came up with this -

Stage 1 of quilt

Stage 2 of quilt

now to decide whether to proceed with the third group of blocks as designed - the four sections sit nicely on top of the main bed area.  Next, how to proceed with the outer borders .......... as I have designed, or go with something slightly different.  I think I will keep looking at it for a while and see if something magically appears ;-)

Doing some preparation - now ready to start cutting ;-)

Using Quilt Wizard, I played around with some log cabin blocks and have come up with a quilt I would like to make

I am going to make a black & white and red log cabin quilt

using these materials

here it is all washed

you will notice I have three reds - DH has a thing about red - it has to be just right ;-)
I am leaning towards the one in the middle ;-)
